Notes: We hit our first set with a hidden Jumbo cards. Yes, this is the start of the "lets not list jumbo cards on the promo list" chain they began. We also have a transition of sets in this promo year, moving from the old-card format to the neo format. prguitarman1 gets the honours of being called the man to finish the catalouged set, as without his help I wouldn't have scored a Tropical Wind. Recently, my latest acquisition are the No.1, 2, and 3 Trainers. While originally issued in late 1998, most of the fandom pushes them into 1999 to better differentiate them (and to keep us sane.)

Included in this year is a set of 10 trophy cards issued to kids in Japan in a contest known as the 'Snap Photo Contest'. As the name implies, these 10 cards featured photos from Pokemon Snap, and like the Pikachu from Trainers Magazine Vol.1, feature a small camera icon as a set symbol. The winners had their photos from the game printed onto the cards and received the set of 10 cards as their prize. As trophy cards were omitted from the official promotional listings, they don't 'exist' in a checklist like the rest of 1999. Much like the Jumbo promos. And the other 9 elusive and rare trophy cards issued in this year bracket.

Additionally in the uncatalogued cards, a very unique trio of cards were given away during the Tropical Mega Battle for completing a stamp book at the tourney. The stamp books were given to players who were not participating in the major ranked battles, and they could then play others to earn stamps in an event called the Dugtrio Team Battle. Those who filled their books were given either an Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres phone card (テレカード) in a sealed envelope. It is unknown how many of them exist, but they were blind packed, so the cards were completely random in their distribution.

Articuno was also reprinted as a present card in a book called PCG Strategies even an Adult can Understand Revised Edition (大人にもわかる ポケモンカード戦略 改訂版), and instead of featuring the elongated base border to the card design that is prominent in the original issue, it's cropped to look like a normal release. The card is more than likely actual standard card size (the phone cards are actually smaller than a standard TCG card.) Due to this, the card is a unique version, therefore another one on the list of cards uncatalogued by PCL during this year.

Only uncatalogued trophy cards and jumbos to go!

Trivia:
• The Evolution Communication Campaign (also known to collectors as the Masaki Campaign) cards are officially listed in the 1999 promotional card listing on Pokemon-Card.com and thus reside here. These cards were given away from April, and entrants had to mail away a Pokemon card (ie. Kadabra or Golem) card along with Bill's PC from the vending Extended Sheet 3 to MediaFactory. The 'evolved' form would be sent back in return.
• The ANA Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres form one solid image.
• Between the catalogued Masaki cards, and the whopping twenty plus trophy grade cards which were never officially catalogued by PCL, this year has one of the largest trophy card runs in the history of the TCG. The cards span between three tournaments (Blastoise Mega Battle, Tropical Mega Battle, and the Super Secret Battle) and two competitions.
• 1999 is one of the largest classic promotional card runs in the TCG pre-ADV era onwards. It is second only to 2002 which had a grand total of 63 cards (including uncatalogued) verses 58 cards.
