Notes: What a promo year. While 2013's promos don't clock in with a terribly large number of cards compared to prior BW-P majority promo years, it has quite a number of interesting and unique additions to the year beyond the usual Gym Challenge pack chunks that plagued many of the earlier BW-P promo years. 2013 also sees the official end of BW-P and the transition to XY-P -- and a pretty full on transition it is with good smattering of promos for the new era as a starting foundation.

The sole Gym Challenge pack that graces this year's promos is only six cards all up instead of the 10-12 sized blocks from 2012, and there are only two energy promo runs thank goodness. The rest of this year is mostly campaign promos such as the February Daiichi Pan promos that start the year off, and a number of movie commemorative promos -- lots of Genesect all over the place. Then XY jumps right on in with PCG Classroom promos, CoroCoro campaign cards, and Battle Festa prizes. I rather like 2013 for this reason -- 2011 is awkwardly large, 2012 is similar and both are too chock-full of Gym Challenge fodder and energies, whereas there just seems to be a bit more variety in this year.

There are also only a tiny, tiny amount of jumbos. Praise the gods.

Missing a few clusters here and there, but will probably finish off the numbered run fairly soon since it's not entirely a difficult run to close off. The unnumbered? Not so much.

Trivia:
• This is probably the weakest year for movie-related promotional cards, thanks to EX Battle Boost's reprint nature for a start and the fact that there was only one true movie commemoration pack released. That said, Genesect did appear at least four times and two of them were technically featured with shiny artwork due to the red Genesect being a focal movie star.
• The very first XY-P promo card was Team Flare Grunt, which was released while BW-P was still going as a pre-game release promo card handed out during the Mystery Card Battle of the Pokemon Game Show.
• 2013 saw the return of the Victory Ring promo. This is the first time the Victory Ring has been returned into trophy circulation since 2006, and the first time it's had three unique placings and therefore three different kinds of artwork like the Victory Medals and Cups.
• Honedge (012/XY-P) and Dedenne (013/XY-P) have two variants: one with the CoroCoro Start-Up Campaign stamp, the other with a Charizard Mega Battle stamp -- both issues have the same numbers.
• Clefairy (014/XY-P) and Pancham (015/XY-P) technically were released in the start of 2014, but are catalogued here due to the gap they would've otherwise left.

Three new special packs have just recently been announced via supply websites like Rakuten and AmiAmi.

Called Holo Card Special Pack Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, or N, the packs are set to contain 1 special holo card (possibly a full art, but at present it's unknown) along with 8 booster packs from Red Collection through to Plasma Gale. From the looks of the product listings these packs are exactly like the Zekrom and Reshiram Holo Card Special Packs released in August last year, hence the suspicion that these may have full art SR style promos.

The packs are due out on the 20th of April, and retail for 1,260円 each.

At present we have no images of the product.

Thanks to Nate for the heads up!

Notes: Much like Dawn of Arceus, and Red Collection, both Cold Flare and Freeze Bolt fall into the category of being very special sets for someone like myself since I had the pleasure of picking up my boxes for it in person. This time we went to Pokecen at Hamamatsuchō where I shouted everyone breakfast as we waited for the centre to open. Being the new card release day, it was pretty packed, and it was actually interesting being able to see fellow Japanese TCG collectors in their element, piecing together baskets of packs (there was one woman who had about 8 boxes worth of both sets in hers!)

I did a livestream opening of both sets to a large audience from pkmncollectors, Tumblr, and the PKMNCollectors 2012 Group in general. It once more was really, really lovely to hand cards over to people when I pulled spares of what they were after in person. I just love doing that kinda thing. It makes me happy, it makes everyone else happy too.

The two sets as a whole are stunning. Being the July set of course these sets featured Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, and Keldeo as major stars with their first EX cards, and Keldeo's Resolution Forme being a big player in the whole thing. The art? Stunning. The choices of Ultra Rares? Even better. True story: I burst into tears when the Toho auction leaks happened live two nights before the set was due out and we were all watching them come through after dinner and saw Altaria got her own shiny card. The literal joy of being a collector, guys.

Trivia:
• This set was released in Japan on the 13th of July 2012.
• There were no corresponding decks released for this set. Instead, there were three movie campaign packs wherein you could get a promo Virizion, Terakion, or Cobalion along with some packs from the sets.
• This set along with Freeze Bolt were conglomerated to create Boundaries Crossed in English.

Busy news day! First off, thanks to the keen eyes of the lovely heatrotomftw97 we've got the sellsheet for BW7 Plasma Gale, which has given us the pack artwork. As suspected with the announcement of the Lugia deck shield and deck cases, we've got ourselves Lugia as the focal Pokemon. It may be safe to assume that LugiaEX will be in the set. You can check it out below:

Additionally, Rakuten updated this afternoon with even more goods announced. Due for release on October 19th, we'll be getting two more Battle Strength Decks: Battle Strength Deck Black KyuremEX, and Battle Strength Deck White KyuremEX. Both sell for 1,680円 a piece and will have 60 cards. They're just like the large EX Battle Strength Decks released for Reshiram and Zerkom not too long ago.

A big thanks to denkimouse for being my ear on the ground with the Rakuten updates today.

We'll keep you in the loop as the news comes.

In an early update this week, the official website updated today with the official launch of the BW6 Freeze Bolt and Cold Flare page.

While little was revealed, what was is still nice in terms of clarification, and general hype. In addition to confirming all prior details off the sale sheets, the site also gave us a very nice clear look at the previously shown Black KyuremEX and White KyuremEX cards that were revealed in the early CoroCoro leak. We know also know that Black KyuremEX is 045/059. You can check out the two clear shots below along with the final confirmed pack art.

Alongside the official unveil, the site detailed the Box Campaign. The promo for this block set is going to be Flygon -- though the card has yet to be unveiled itself -- and with the side of the boxes shown in the promo image we can also confirm that Maril and Audino will be in Freeze Bolt, while Herdier and Lilligant will be in Cold Flare. It's unknown yet as to which set will see a Flygon variant. You can check out the images below.

As usual we'll keep you updated as the news comes!
